What is the watermelon game?
The watermelon game is a fruit-merging puzzle: drop fruits into a container, merge two identical fruits into a bigger one and climb all the way to the watermelon before the container overflows. On iPhone, Frutelia plays this way, for free and with no ads.

What is the watermelon game called?
The genre took off with Suika Game ("suika" means watermelon in Japanese, so the name literally means "watermelon game"), published by Aladdin X in Japan in 2021. It went viral worldwide in 2023, and "the watermelon game" became the name everyone used. You will also see it called a fruit-merge game or a fruit drop game. Dozens of these games have followed on phones since, each with its own name and its own twist.
How to play the watermelon game
- A fruit hangs above the container. You choose where it falls.
- Two identical fruits that touch merge into the next, bigger fruit.
- Merges can chain: the new fruit may touch its own twin and merge again.
- If the fruits pile up past the top, the game is over. The watermelon is the goal.
Why it is so hard to put down
Every drop is a small bet. Physics makes the jar a little unpredictable: a fruit rolls one centimetre too far and a whole chain falls into place, or it doesn't. Games are short, the next one starts in a second, and the watermelon always feels one good merge away.

Three tips to reach the watermelon
- Keep big fruits in a corner. Build from one side so the large fruits do not split the jar in two.
- Line fruits up by size. A descending row (big to small) lets one merge roll into the next.
- Watch the next fruit. It tells you whether to drop now on a pair or keep a spot free.
